Back in August of last year amid both the busiest couple of weeks of my season and the start of what would soon become known as ‘bathroomgate’ (a bathroom remodel nightmare before you get any other ideas) my good friend Duncan Cox and I travelled over to Castle Bromwich Hall Hotel in Birmingham to shoot Devon and Kierans big day.
Duncan and I are part of a small group of midlands based photographers that support one another in what can be quite a lonely industry (don’t worry, I’m not looking for sympathy…) and also second shoot for one another every now and again. Duncan is a fantastic photographer… way better than I am (and also way taller and far more handsome than me … things I am in no way annoyed about) so it was lovely to spend the day working alongside him. Anyway, every now and again in life you meet people that you immediately ‘click’ with …. folks that you feel comfortable with straight away and that was definitely the case with Devon and Kieran. We first met up for a little practice shoot a few months before the wedding and chose a location that just so happened to be hosting a ‘race for life’ event on the same day. Have you any idea how hard it is to take a nice romantic photograph whilst hundreds of people in pink t-shirts and tutus are running through your frame every five seconds? However, we managed, D&K were great and the wedding was to be no different (sans ‘race for life’ obviously).
The day itself was wonderful. A fantastic Bride and Groom, lively (very lively) bridesmaids, some very cool groomsmen and a couple of Llamas. What more could you ask for? I should say that I was a little wary of the Llamas to start with but they were very well behaved and not at all camera shy. They didn’t show their ‘displeasure’ at being photographed once for which I am very grateful!

Oh, and I still can’t talk about the Bathroom. It’s way too soon.
