Destination Wedding Photographer. Josie and Ross, Palazzo Villa Rosa, Malta.
Destination Wedding Photographer, Malta.
Back at the start of August, I took the 3 and a bit hour flight from Luton to meet up with Josie, Ross and their family and friends to photograph their Wedding in Malta. The main venue for their Destination Wedding was the stunning Palazzo Villa Rosa in St. Julians (anyone that has ever been to St. Julians will know it well as it overlooks the bay and is easily the most impressive building in the town).
I first met Josie and Ross at a wedding in the UK - Ali and Armons wonderful day in Leicestershire two years ago. When Josie got in touch to ask if I would like to join them in Malta I practically jumped at the chance. Not only do I love travelling but Malta holds a special place in my heart as it was the first place outside of the UK that my parents took my sister and I as kids (we didnt travel to far afield generally, so going abroad was a big deal for us back then!)
Planning your Destination Wedding.
Planning a destination wedding is no easy task (I know... I was married in Vegas), so it is really important to do your research and have as much help as possible. In terms of photography, do you hire someone in the location you are visiting or do you take someone with you? It's a tricky question. Hiring in resort offers the benefit of local knowledge, but also means a smaller number of photographers to choose from and you might not get the chance to meet that person ahead of the wedding. These issues can be addressed by taking someone with you but there is obviously the extra cost associated with doing so. There are many Award Winning Destination Wedding Photographers in the UK to choose from.... most of whom are more than happy to travel the world in search of amazing weddings to photograph and I am no different. Near or far I will go wherever (within reason) if the wedding is right!
The help of an local wedding planner can be invaluable, and in Josie and Ross's case they had Sarah Young Events looking after them. They did a wonderful job on the day and I must say a big thank you to Sarah and her team for helping me out as the day progressed. If you are planning a wedding in Malta, I would wholeheartedly recommend Sarah and her colleagues if you are looking for a helping hand.
Having said all of that though, my biggest thank you must go to Josie and Ross for asking me to join them on what was a truly sensational day. Throughout the process of arranging the details of trip and on the day itself they could not have been more accommodating.... giving me time whenever I asked for it, and welcoming me as if I were one of their guests. I had the most amazing time.
I must also thank all of the guests... especially Alison (thank you for sharing the cab with me... making sure I got to the right Chapel), Tina and Kev. It was also really lovely to see Louisa, Collette and Jenny again. And last but not least, a huge thank you to Ali and Armon for the recommendation.... it was just wonderful to see you both again and I cannot wait to hear the news of your impending arrival!
Destination Wedding Photography in Malta.
So, having said all of that.... here are more than a few of Josie and Ross's photographs from a beautiful (and very very hot) day in Malta.
The wedding ceremony itself took place in this beautiful little chapel in the hills outside of St. Julians. What a perfect setting in which to get married!
It was super hot in Malta (and through most of southern Europe) during the trip... and by hot I mean 40+ degrees hot. So fans were very much a neccessity.
From an entirely personal point of view, this may well be my favourite shot of the entire day... Josie and Ross in the foreground and Ali and Armon in the background. Two of the nicest couples you could ever hope to meet and I am so fortunate to have photographed both of their weddings.
Once all of the formalities were done, the three of us nipped up on to the roof of the Villa to take advantage of that beautiful Maltese light....
